FIMBA GB is proud to announce that it has officially gained Community Interest Company (CIC) status (FIMBA GB Maxibasketball CIC), marking a significant milestone in its mission to grow the game of masters basketball across Great Britain.
FIMBA GB Maxibasketball CIC has been established to create a structure and governance around the provision of basketball for Master’s (referred to as Maxibasketball globally) players in Great Britain. This development strengthens FIMBA GB’s commitment to making basketball more accessible, particularly for those looking to re-engage with the sport on a recreational level, while also offering pathways to international competition for those who aspire to progress further.
FIMBA GB is dedicated to supporting Masters basketball players to play the game they are passionate about. As a not-for-profit entity, the CIC status ensures that all investments and profits are reinvested directly into the sport. This commitment helps to offset the costs of tournaments and provide access to valuable coaching sessions and support staff, empowering players to thrive both on and off the court.
At the heart of FIMBA GB’s mission is a strong emphasis on the health and wellbeing of every player. The organisation recognises the health benefits of staying active in maintaining overall mental health, reducing stress, and fostering social connections in an engaged and supportive community. Through structured training camps, FIMBA GB encourages individuals to enjoy basketball at their own pace while offering guidance and pathways for those who wish to compete at a higher level.
The idea was born following 5 years of success for FIMBA GB on the international stage, winning 16 medals including European Gold for the +70 Men in 2024. The FIMBA GB Committee saw an opportunity to create an all-inclusive avenue to inspire everyone over 35 to take part in basketball; not to focus purely on the international element but support each of the GB home countries in promoting Master’s basketball and providing the necessary support.
The organisation has already launched a Regional Centre in Aberdeen (FIMBA GB Scotland), creating a welcoming environment for players to return to the game, improve their fitness, and enjoy the social and mental benefits of sport. Building on this momentum, FIMBA GB is preparing to open its next Regional Centre in North Wales (FIMBA GB Wales), with more regional camps and an outreach programme in areas that suffer from limited basketball opportunities to follow. Whether you want the opportunity to represent Great Britain on the international stage, or just play against others in your own age category, FIMBA GB wants to ensure no matter your current level of fitness or age, there is a place for you to play basketball.
The new CIC status reinforces FIMBA GB’s long-term vision to create sustainable opportunities for players to engage with the sport, whether socially or competitively. By fostering community participation and expanding its regional network, FIMBA GB is ensuring that basketball remains an inclusive and lifelong sport for all.
