Formed in 2019, FIMBA GB created an all inclusive opportunity for players to represent their country at international level, no matter their playing background. FIMBA GB is the United Kingdom ‘arm’ of FIMBA – The Federation of Masters Basketball Association (http://www.fimba.net/en/). FIMBA GB has been authorised by FIMBA World to regulate and control players and teams from the United Kingdom representing Great Britain at FIMBA events worldwide. We have been endorsed and recognised as leading the way for masters basketball in Great Britain by both FIMBA and GB Basketball.

A series of regional camps, for all age groups, toured the country looking for the best talent available as they prepared to send 6 teams (+35W; +50W; +55W; +40M; +60M) to the upcoming FIMBA Maxibasketball European Championships in Malaga.

The onset of Covid delayed the tournament, but FIMBA GB tasted glory for the first time in 2020, with the +40 Men and +35 Women winning Gold and Bronze respectively in the FIMBA at Home tournament – a skills based online competition. With sport numbers increasing during lockdown, the interest in FIMBA GB grew and grew and the organisation grew from 6 to 15 international teams.

Further success followed as the number of players continued to grow over 240, winning 5 medals at the FIMBA European Championships in Spain 2022 (+40M Silver; +70M/+35M Bronze; +55W/+35W Iron); 2 x Bronze at the World Cup in Croatia 2023 (+50W; +40M); another Bronze (+60W) at the ESBA European Championships in Portugal 2023; 3 at the World Cup in Croatia 2024 (+35W Gold; +40W Silver; +50W Bronze) before an inspired Gold for the +70M and two more bronzes for the +35W and +35M at the FIMBA European Championships in Italy 2024.

in 2025, FIMBA GB Masters CIC was established, to create a structure and governance around the provision of basketball for Master’s players in Great Britain. The remit is to encourage, organise and – in the case of international level – regulate basketball in 5-year age groups for players from 35 years upwards and support in the growth of the Master’s game.

FIMBA GB Masters CIC was established to create a structure and governance around the provision of basketball for Master’s (referred to as Maxibasketball globally) players in Great Britain. This development strengthens FIMBA GB’s commitment to making basketball more accessible, particularly for those looking to re-engage with the sport on a recreational level, while also offering pathways to international competition for those who aspire to progress further. FIMBA GB is dedicated to supporting Masters basketball players to play the game they are passionate about. As a not-for-profit entity, the CIC status ensures that all investments and profits are reinvested directly into the sport. This commitment helps to offset the costs of tournaments and provide access to valuable coaching sessions and support staff, empowering players to thrive both on and off the court.

At the heart of FIMBA GB’s mission is a strong emphasis on the health and wellbeing of every player. The organisation recognises the health benefits of staying active in maintaining overall mental health, reducing stress, and fostering social connections in an engaged and supportive community. Through structured training camps, FIMBA GB encourages individuals to enjoy basketball at their own pace while offering guidance and pathways for those who wish to compete at a higher level.

We are proud to be able to keep players in the game as well as opening up new tournaments for them.
