FIMBA GB Scotland Launched

FIMBA GB are delighted to announce the first of many regional camps, with FIMBA GB Scotland starting in Aberdeen.

With Masters players typically limited to lower division National League against younger, quicker players or local league against inexperienced players, FIMBA GB is always looking for ways to provide playing opportunities for all those aged 40 and above. Despite several players within the 15 international FIMBA GB teams hailing from Scotland, there are very few chances for these and other interested players to get a taste of the Master’s environment, so with the support of Philip White, the first satellite camp was started in Aberdeen.

Delighted to be involved with bringing masters basketball to Aberdeen and providing an outlet to keep, and attract players to the game. There are so many benefits for both physical and mental health and I am excited to grow our thriving, basketball community in the North of Scotland.

Lisa Cochrane, +40 Women

The weekly sessions are for all male and female players, aged 40 and above who want to continue playing competitively against those of a similar age, whilst benefitting from experienced coaches. There is a bespoke +40 Men’s session on Thursdays at 8.30pm and a joint men’s/women’s camp for all other age groups on Mondays at 8.30pm. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact the programme leads by clicking their names below:-

Masters basketball is alive and kicking in Aberdeen. It’s fantastic to see former players returning to the game. Our association with FIMBA GB will help grow the masters community and keep us playing the game we love.

Neil Grant, +55 Men

Since FIMBA GB started in 2019, the committee have been looking at how to increase awareness of Masters Basketball, as well as keep as many people playing as possible, even if they were not successful in making the international FIMBA GB teams. These regional camps, not only do that, but they give players from further afield the opportunity to get a taste of what being part of the FIMBA GB Family means and ensure everyone has the same opportunities to be selected to play for Great Britain at international tournaments.

With interest in Masters basketball continuing to grow in the North-East of Scotland, we’re delighted to partner with FIMBA GB, which I’m sure will help further raise the profile of Masters basketball in the area, and lead to opportunities for us to compete against other teams across the UK.

Ryan McKay, +40 Men Lead

There will be more regional camp announcements over the coming months, so if you are interested in getting involved or wanting to set up a regional camp in your area to help promote Masters Basketball at a participation or international competition level please contact admin@fimba-gb.com.

For all those players in Aberdeen, welcome to the #fimbagbfamily!
