The FIMBA GB +40 Women had their final training camp before heading off to the European Championships in Pesaro, Italy later this month.
The session started with a very open, sit down Q&A session where the players were encouraged to discuss aspects they wanted to work on individually or as a team in the final session. The squad was then split into two teams and the coaches asked how each team would react to certain situationals they presented to them and then discussed the outcomes between the two “teams”.
After the usual warmups, the players got down to business with some passing and shooting drills, before running through the offence sets with and without defence. Coach Harrison then worked on some 2 on 2 skills with the guards, whilst Coach Lauder took the inside players to fine tune footwork and positioning on offence and defence, before the two sets of players came back together to put what they’d been practicing into the 5 man game.
The Teams last training session before the tournament was one of their best, illustrating how they have developed , their understanding of our offensive and defensive play . The team trains as a team each helping the other, they will face the up coming challenges as one and have given themselves every chance to succeed !

The session finished with a long scrimmage as the two coaches threw different scenarios and defences at them to really test their thought process under pressure and in the heat of the game.
I can’t believe we’ve reached the tournament already. It’s been a fantastic journey with an amazing group of people. On behalf of the team, we want to thank our coaches and support staff for the hours they have put in to getting us in the best shape possible for the challenges that will come our way in Italy. We go in to the tournament excited and confident we can perform well and represent GB with pride.
