Kindness – Pass it on with Care Days

FIMBA GB partner, Care Days have teamed up with the incredible 70 year old ultra-runner, Tom Schnitzius for the Logicom Paphos Marathon in Cyprus on March 3rd 2024.

Care Days have been a partner of FIMBA GB for the past 3 seasons, supporting the +40 men and women teams and have just launched a new initiative called Care Day Dreams – giving a once in a lifetime experience to people suffering with terminal cancer in Cyprus. These experiences are paid for by generous people and donations, a lot of whom have been affected by cancer in their lives and want to support and help someone else and you can help by donating here.

The marathon itself takes place on Sunday 3rd March from Aphrodite Rock to Paphos Harbour, but Tom himself will be running a double marathon non stop by continuing around the coast to Sea Caves and back – a total of 52 miles, to help raise money for this incredible partnership and make more peoples’ dreams come true.

Tom after 100 miles in Rocky Mountains

Tom Schnitzius from Colorado, now living in Cyprus, has completed 55 marathons and 56 ultra-marathons, the Rocky Mountain Slam (four 100-mile races in four months) twice, the Grand Slam of Ultra-running and the Hardrock 100 trail run four times. Each of them non stop‼ He is an inspiration at 70 years young!

When Tom first agreed to support Care Days Dreams, Andrew, the Care Days Founder felt that this could be such a big event that he invited three other charities to Join the Fun so that they could benefit from the privilege of having Tom supporting all four wonderful cancer organisations, St Michael’s Hospice Charity, The Friends Hospice and Cancer Patient’s Support Group through Breast of Friends.

You can also show your support by sponsoring the running shirts of all participants running for Care Days for a cost of only Eu 250. Your logo will also be on the banners that will be at the entrance to the harbour and which will be seen by the 3,000 plus runners and expected 2,000 spectators, so this represents great value for money. Please email Andrew on caredayscyprus@aol.com if you can help and ALL the money raised through sponsorship will be split between the four cancer support organisations.

If you are lucky enough to be in Cyprus, you can of course take part and receive a free running shirt, medallion and individual timing, be cheered on by large crowds and a great feeling as you cross the finishing line having walked the flat 5kms ending up along the coastal path, taking less than one hour and with free beer at the end! Minimum €40 sponsorship required from each walker, as Care Days will need to pay €20 to Logicom, whose race director is fully supporting Tom’s Care Days Dreams Double Marathon. There are already 150 walkers registered and we are aiming for 200 by January 21st when final numbers have to be registered.
