Cancer Charity Care Days is continuing it’s support of FIMBA GB, partnering again with the +40 Women in 2025.
Care Days, first got involved with FIMBA GB, supporting the successful European Silver Medal winning, GB Wolfpack +40 Men in 2022, before switching to support the women’s game in 2023 with the +40 Women.
Care Days, now a registered not for profit company run by 3 volunteers, was started to offer free of charge pampering sessions to cancer patients, enabling those who have been diagnosed with cancer in the last 3 years (including their partner), or anyone recently bereaved through cancer, the opportunity of being pampered free of charge for a morning and to “Live the Dream.”
The concept was created because the founder had cancer and is now in remission, so wanted to give something back and support those in what can be a very lonely, dark and scary place.
When we first started Care Days, it was unique in that we did not have to raise funds as we are, and remain, unpaid volunteers and Care Days, are offered in Cyprus and S Africa free of charge by generous companies. Once we received sponsorship less than 18 months ago, enabling us to give away Dreams to terminal, secondary or couples both of whom had cancer, we were able to offer Dreams thanks to the money we invested ourselves or raised .
Since then Care Days, has looked after over 400 cancer patients and granted over 50 Dreams in various countries, primarily Cyprus and S. Africa. For some, this is a life changing experience, with tears of joy, but what none of us realised was that it would also be a life changing and very humbling experience for us.
When the founder heard that some members of the FIMBA GB Team would find it difficult to pay for the exciting chance to to represent their country, he felt he would like to personally support them and has been involved as a key partner ever since.
A recent expansion has seen the creation of Care Day Dreams, a new initiative to support terminal cancer patients do something they’ve always wanted to, but never got the chance. One last round of golf with their son, a visit to Disneyland for a child, seeing their favourite football team one last time – the amazing work that started in Cyprus is now creating incredible memories in Europe and South Africa as well.
As part of the partnership, the +40 Women will be supporting the Care Days team in completing a 1,000km walk for cancer patients. On Sunday 9th March, the FIMBA GB +40 Women will be tracking their steps and distance in their training camp and supporting the other 200+ walkers in Cyprus raising money on the day to support terminal cancer patients. This year will be extra special as the team will be raising funds to create a Care Day Dream for one of the FIMBA GB +60 Women’s brother, who has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
