The FIMBA GB +55 Women are delighted to welcome Ged Donnelly formally to the team setup as Assistant Coach.
Ged has been informally supporting the team over the last two seasons and provided invaluable stats during the European tournament in Portugal this year.
Having played basketball while at school, Ged took up the game again to play local league basketball and joined Civil Service playing in departmental and national competitions. Ged comes with a wealth of coaching experience both at local and national league levels. Coaching started in 1984 when Ged was asked to be Assistant Coach for a local women’s team in the Durham League. Success in local league led to the team competing in the Women’s National League as Impact Sunderland where Ged continued his role as Assistant Coach until leaving to raise a family.
Ged was asked to return to coaching in 1994 to coach a group of young lads who were looking to form a team to enter local league. As player/coach Ged was successful in leading the team to win the league and Cup Competitions in the Tyneside Met League. Ged is excited about bringing his passion and expertise to FIMBA GB +55 Women’s team and the prospect of supporting Coach, Stu Coffey, as they work together towards the FIMBA 2024 XII European Maxibasketball Championships in Pesaro, Italy.
