The FIMBA GB +60W team came together for a focused two-day training camp on 18th and 19th May at Carterton Leisure Centre in Oxfordshire, setting the stage for their preparations ahead of Athens. While the squad had hoped to assemble at full strength, circumstances meant they were without two players—one side-lined through injury and another unavailable due to a prior commitment. Despite this, the ten players in attendance made full use of the weekend.
Saturday’s sessions were intensive and purposeful, with the team working through a range of drills designed to sharpen both individual skills and collective cohesion. There was a strong emphasis on executing set plays, with players showing commitment and energy throughout as they refined their approach.
Sunday brought a competitive test in the form of a match against a local scratch team, many of whom had a clear advantage in youth. What followed was a tightly contested and highly engaging encounter. The FIMBA GB +60W team demonstrated resilience and composure under pressure, staying in the game throughout and ultimately edging ahead in the closing moments to secure a one-point victory. The final minutes were particularly tense, but the team held their nerve to seal an excellent result.
Coach Alex reflected positively on both the performance and the spirit shown across the weekend: “Considering we weren’t at full strength, I was really impressed with how the group came together. The work ethic on Saturday set the tone, and on Sunday they showed real determination and composure in a very tight game. Winning by a single point against a younger side says a lot about their character and understanding as a team.”
