+55 Women fall to youngsters in Oxford

The FIMBA GB +55 Women were invited to an invitational tournament near Oxford, losing to a much younger side in the final.

The tournament took place over the weekend of 3-4th February, with 4 teams and served as part of their preparations twoards the FIMBA European Championships in Pesaro in June.

Following a tight first game, which they won 34-32, they continued their winning form by ending the pool stage unbeaten and with a points difference of +57 after their3 matches. Unfortunately, they lost the play-off final against a younger side, ultimately coming up short following inspired performances in the final by other FIMBA players from younger categories.

Despite the final loss, a great team spirit and committed application meant that the squad is in good shape after their first competitive test this season. Particularly pleasing was the transition from defence to offence which yielded much on the scoreboard.

This tournament was also the last chance for players to prove themselves and gain their selection for the Championships. With just 3 places left to play for, the following players secured their places on the plane with good all-around performances:

Mandy O’Brien
Keren Day
Helen Samuel

The squad is full and strong with good prospects for success in June. With players that play this hard for each other, no ambition is out of reach! Reach for the stars, ladies!

Huge congratulations to Mandy, Keren and Helen and the rest of the +55 Women on making the final cut and earning the opportunity to represent Great Britain.
