+55 Women continue prepartions

Preparations for the World Championships in Ticino, Switzerland continue to progress well for the FIMBA GB +55W squad.

Following a tournament win in Oxford in February, the team went onto RAF Cosford in March to play another tournament with the RAF Senior women, who have recently been crowned as Inter-Services champions. The RAF ladies won in the final but the +55W ran them close with a single digit loss, which was excellent preparation for Ticino. Just getting to that final showed great promise for the championships to come.

Early April saw a mix of players head to Strathclyde, with players from the +55W FIMBA team ending up competing in the final on both sides! It was a tight game with Witney Diamonds coming out as the eventual winners but, with FIMBA +55 women on both sides in the final, FIMBA GB itself was also definitely a winner!

There are 2 more events scheduled before Ticino. Dublin at the end of May where they won the tournament’s +50 category last year. This year, an +55 category is being introduced so they will be hoping to bring home that new trophy, too. Most players are also expected at the GB Masters in June as a last run out in the +50 category.

With so many playing opportunities lined up, the last training session was held over the weekend of the 10/11th May at RAF Cranwell. All plays and philosophies were practiced and discussed, leaving the team well organised and in the best condition it can be in to compete effectively in Switzerland at the World Championships.

Morale is high and energy is good within the group. It’s just a case of converting detailed preparations into action and results but these women are up to the task!
