50 days to go, from the +50 women

With 50 days to go until tip off at the FIMBA European Championships in Pesaro, Italy, we hear from members of the +50 Women (Bronze medal winners at the 2023 World Cup).

FIMBA GB +50 Women are again in preparation for the European Championships in Pesaro, Italy. We have lost a few players who have moved up to the next age group but have gained some new players who are proving to be real assets and have added to the strength and depth of the team. I look forward to leading our team through some tough competition and hopefully bringing back a medal. Our preparations have been positive and as a team and we continue to Foster close friendships on and off the court.  Building each other’s confidence, respecting each other and pushing each other to be the best versions of ourselves has been key and this has certainly been an enjoyable journey for all of us, with support and guidance of two fantastic coaches.

Hazel Shaw – Captain

Our 50s women’s team are excited to be working on final strategies before heading to Pesaro in June. The team has grown in confidence and belief this season with players competing in a number of competitions in the UK, Ireland and Europe with great success, trophies and medals. The teamwork and friendships both on and off court are proving key to this team’s success with positivity driving us forward to do well in Italy at the Europeans. The team always demonstrate respect for each other and our fabulous coaches and play best when smiling and enjoying the game…..Arriviamo!!

Ruth Barron – Vice Captain

The team are excited but fully aware of the challenges that lie ahead in Pesaro.  Maintaining their work ethic and demonstrating the values of team basketball will prove crucial going forward, for the team to succeed.  This is a highly respectful group of players, full of comradery and will relish the occasion.  We can’t wait.
