45 days to go – o45’s Men’s journey

To mark 45 days until the XI FIMBA European Championships in Malaga, Spain, the o45 Men’s team give an updated on their team’s progress.

Over the past 3 years, the o45 Men’s team has gone through various changes as Covid continued to delay the European Championships. Originally joined with the o40 Men for training weekends due to various players ages having them qualify for both by the time the tournament came around, the teams split in November 2021.

Coach Franky took over the reigns in October 2021 and concentrated on a system that would get the best from his group of talented ex-International, BBL and NBL players. Coming together at least once a month to work on their set plays and cohesion, the o45’s are all dialed in and have individual training plans they are working on in-between sessions to ensure they are in the best shape possible to take on Europe’s finest.

With 45 days left the FIMBA GB o45’s are almost ready. The work that has been done over the last few camps and in particular the last one has strengthened our unity and help cement the team style of play. Spirits are high, players are healthy and eager. We are all very excited to represent GB in malaga.

Captained by ex-Leicester Rider Drew Barrett, the group has players from the length and breadth of the UK, including the Isle of Wight, and a great team spirit. Their cohesion on court is clear to see and their respect and support for each other are great assets to have.

This journey has seldom been straight forward and there have been many different twists and turns on this well travelled road. This inspirational and captivating game of basketball we all love has delivered some real gifts. The wonderful gift of camaraderie, friendship and brotherhood with some absolutely amazing human beings. The collective sense of purpose has bonded us all together and adds depth and meaning to the next chapter of the incredible book of life. Thank you to FIMBA GB for this fantastic opportunity!
