GB Wolfpack return to Northampton

The European Silver Medalist FIMBA GB +40 Men returned to Northampton at the weekend for their final training camp of 2022.

Coach Mac was again ably assisted by the recovering Steven Gayle as they continued to bring the new faces up to speed to the high tempo game plan that proved so successful in Malaga.

Welcoming back Bruce Lauder, Dan Midgely and Lee McCarthy for the first time following their injuries, Coach Mac had a strong contingent of players on the Saturday working hard for each other. Starting with a good conditioning workout, the Wolfpack then continued to learn their transition offences and situational plays, preparing for the World Cup in Croatia in 2023. The intensity was at it’s usual high level, with the new faces fitting in well with the Wolfpack mentality.

Sunday saw a more relaxed training, with shooting and defense the main focus areas as the new recruits stepped up well to the tasks in front of them. The session culminated in a fun 3pt shoot out involving the full squad, with Aitor Estrada just beat Steven Gayle to the win.

Coach Mac was pleased with what he saw:-

So session two of Wolfpack training is complete. Great to have some of the walking wounded back in Bruce, Lee and Dan Midgely. Just Marcus Knight, Ryan Peters and Steven Gayle to go! I think we made progress with developing our thinking and understanding of space, read and react. As I told the guys, don’t do what I say, do what you see. We still have lots to do but I’m happy we have stepped forward. As always the guys gave great commitment and effort which I take for granted now. Looking forward to our trip to Switzerland .

Coach Mac – FIMBA GB +40 Men Head Coach

Next up for the GB Wolfpack is a trip to Switzerland in January for a joint training session with the Swiss team they met in the group stages at the European Championships followed by a tri-nations “friendly” tournament with Italy joining them. Coach Mac will then finalise his squad for the Masters World Cup in Croatia.
