GB Men +60 and +65 train together

The two teams met up in Sheffield for a combined combined training camp, aimed to enhance the skills and tactical understanding of both the +60 and +65 GB Men’s basketball teams.

The weekend camp focused on key areas such as shooting, transition play, offensive plays, conditioning, and game scenarios as well as fostering team cohesion and allowing for shared learning and experience between the two age groups.

During the shooting section, the players worked on proper form and footwork whilst spot shooting, quick releaser and accuracy after receiving a pass and creating space to shoot off the dribble. The section finished with free throw shooting, highlighting the importance of consistency and mental focus.

Next, the focus turned to transition and offensive play, as the players practiced moving the ball quickly down the court, utilising passing and running lanes effectively to create scoring opportunities as well as practicing movement and positioning during transition to maximise shot opportunities early in the shot clock. After some short conditioning segments to ensure the players were on target with their fitness levels, the session culminated in full-court games, allowing players to apply the skills and tactics practiced earlier. Coaches observed player performance and provided feedback during gameplay. The combined teams allowed for varied match-ups and different playing styles to interact.

Both the +60 and +65 teams demonstrated a high level of dedication and enthusiasm throughout the session. The team is shaping up and the offensive play is much better. The movement and spacing on offence has greatly improved allowing players to attack spaces and make good individual plays
