GB Lions enjoy successful camp

Following the hugely successful Silver and Bronze medal winning +40 Men, the interest in the team and age group has grown so much that the decision was made to add a further team, nicknamed the GB Lions.

Coached by the experienced and highly decorated Derby Trailblazers Coach, Matt Shaw, the GB Lions are an outlet for players moving up from the Bronze medal winning +35 Men and those that don’t make the cut for the +40 Men. Such is the interest and standard, FIMBA GB believe they will have two very competitive teams for the 2024 International calendar.

The one day camp on Sunday was was an excellent session as the players got to work together again and get more familiar with each other and the way their teammates play. Coach Shaw started with some defensive principles the team will be utilising and was really pleased to see the guys respond so well. The session then switched to offense, with a framework put in place that the guys are getting more familiar with.

For some of the players what we’ve done has been a reminder of things they’ve done in the past, while for others this is the first time they’ve played this way or seen some of the ideas we are looking to implement, so it’s been interesting getting to know our personal more and understand each players basketball background and IQ.
The spirit in the group is excellent. They are a competitive squad which bodes really well as we move forward.
