GB Forties progressing well

The FIMBA GB +40 Women were in Birmingham at the weekend taking their next step towards the 2024 European Championships in Italy.

Under the watchful eye of Head Coach Tony Harrison and his new assistant, +40 men’s player Bruce Lauder, the team were worked hard on skill development, fitness and defence.

After a gentle warmup up and down the court running through some basic offences and movements, the team continued to develop their dribbling and passing games with numerous high intensity drills, focused on movement, communication and spatial awareness.

With a couple of new faces joining the team, the coaching team then worked on shooting technique to get a better understanding of how they could work together on court and perfect their actions.

After a brief break, the ladies were put through their paces in 5 highly intense stations, focused on fitness, passing, shooting and cutting.

I’m sure the girls will disagree, but I really enjoyed the fitness stations. Seeing the work ethic, hustle, encouragement and teamwork in every drill showed what a great group we are working with. It was clear they were tired but they kept giving every drill everything and really pushed themselves, whilst keeping their form and not taking lazy shots – it was very impressive and a pleasure to watch.

Following a well deserved break, the focus switched to further honing their defence, which is one of the strengths of this team, before a final scrimmage giving them the opportunity to put everything into practice.

The next session will take place on 19/20th August, if you would like to be involved please email admin@fimba-gb.com with your expression of interest.
