The FIMBA GB +50M basketball team recently held an intensive training session in Oxford and were hosted, once again, by the Abingdon Eagles Basketball Club.
The session was well-attended, with players eager to showcase their skills and secure one of the final slots on the roster for the upcoming Masters World Cup and FIMBA World Championships.
The session was led by Assistant Head Coach Mark Taylor, who stood in for Head Coach Dom Short, who was away on business. Coach Taylor was assisted by newly appointed +50M Captain Danny James. The training focused on conditioning, strategy, and technique with an emphasis on building a strong foundation for the team’s offensive and defensive plays.
With the squad almost finalised, the intense environment allowed the coaching staff to assess the players’ performance and make informed decisions on the final selections.
Coach Taylor and Danny James have assembled one of the best, if not the best, teams in their age group. Such is the quality of the squad that I would say the expectation is for them to podium in one or both competitions. The team is good enough to compete in the NBL and give teams a lot younger a run for their money.
International Head Coach Des Williams
The squad will continue their preparations with a Northern region session and the coaching staff are confident that the hard work and dedication shown during the Oxford training sessions will translate into success on the international stage.
We would like to express our sincerest thanks to Abington Eagles Basketball club for hosting us and their hospitality.
