Due to the number of talented individuals attending the recent FIMBA GB +35 Women’s camps, the decision has been made to enter two teams into the Masters World Cup in Croatia later this year.
The latest session, a double-header weekend in Birmingham, saw one of the largest attendances as Coach AJ put the ever increasing number of talented ladies through their paces. With a mix of current players and new faces, Coach AJ was delighted with what he saw on display throughout the various drills and exercises.
I came into the weekend very optimistic about what I was going to see, but was very surprised and pleased at the talent that played out before me. People that have been involved with the group before stepped up their performances and showed me that they can and will be an asset to what we are doing. It is a very hard decision I have had to make to trim the squad down to make it manageable and realistic going forward to Croatia. The future is very bright as I can see we have a path for a long way forward and into many future tournaments we may well enter.
Coach AJ – FIMBA GB +35 Women
With a 4th place medal already in the bag from last year’s European Championships in Malaga, and the level of talented and committed players turning up for the opportunity to represent Great Britain, the decision has been made to enter two teams into the Masters World Cup. Taking place in April this year in the beautiful city of Omis, Croatia the two teams will be up against some of the best teams from around the world. To support Coach AJ, the FIMBA GB +35 Women are now looking for another coach to take the reigns of one of the two teams and support the overall journey to Croatia and beyond.
What a weekend for us! We have grown our section from 8 or 9 to just shy of 30 players! We now have the amazing opportunity to offer lots more women our age the chance to represent FIMBA GB 35’s at Basketball and that’s always a great feeling! So much so we have decided to enter two squads into the Masters Basketball Association World Cup in Croatia this year! Very exciting times ahead for everyone. The talent at Camp was excellent and the social was great fun too. We’re growing an amazing basketball family. Let’s go FIMBA GB!
