+60 & +65 Men’s Camp Report

Snow did not deter the +60M and +65M players turning up for the first training session of the year. Special mentions to Jeff Spaith who flew in from Cleveland Ohio and Mark King who flew from Portugal to take part, great commitment from both come and practice with the team.

A small minority of players missed the session through illness including coach Ritchie Rudd and in his absence Keith White, Gary Glennard and Paul O’Brian ran the session with an itinerary prepared by Coach Richie.

Saturday, January 11th:

  • Warm-up: A thorough and focused warm-up was conducted by all players, emphasising proper movement and injury prevention.
  • Drills:
    • Dribbling: A variety of dribbling drills were implemented, focusing on ball control, speed, and change of direction.
    • 3-point shooting: Players practiced 3-point shots from various spots on the court, emphasising proper form and follow-through.
    • Three lane layups: Players practiced layups from three different angles, focusing on accuracy and finishing.
    • Set Offenses: The teams practiced set plays and offensive strategies to improve team coordination and scoring opportunities.

    • Five-on-Five Games: Full-court five-on-five games were played to simulate game conditions, allowing players to implement learned skills and strategies.
  • Warm-down: A thorough warm-down was conducted by all players, including stretching and light cardio, to aid in recovery and prevent muscle soreness.

Sunday, January 12th:

  • Warm-up: Similar to Saturday.

    • Dribbling: Different dribbling drills were incorporated to further enhance ball-handling skills.
    • Free throw shooting: Players focused on free throw technique and accuracy.
    • Mid-range shooting: Players practiced mid-range shots from various spots on the court.
    • Set Offenses: Different set plays were introduced and practiced to expand the offensive repertoire.
  • Warm-down: A thorough warm-down was conducted by all players to aid in recovery.

The training camp was a productive and successful event. Both the +60 and +65 teams demonstrated a strong work ethic and a commitment to improving their skills. The drills and games provided valuable opportunities for players to develop their individual and team skills, enhance their fitness levels, and prepare for upcoming competitions in Croatia and Switzerland.

Standing in at short notice was a bit daunting but the team was very understanding and a pleasure to coach. Both groups really worked hard in coach Ritchie’s absence.
