The FIMBA GB +55 Women met for their two day October training camp firstly at Northgate Sports Hall in Sleaford.
A mix of current +55 as well some +50 women now eligible were welcomed. The team were also delighted to be joined by Phil Gander (+50W Coach) for the Saturday session who brought his knowledge and experience sharing training drills and ideas which were very well received by the players. A session concentrating on fast break and looking to get the ball into the front court as quickly as possible will really stand us in good stead in Ticino 2025.
Coach Coffey ran a session on inside plays with the Centres/Forwards concentrating on the screen and pick and roll move. At the same time Coach Gander ran a session with the guards and quick movement across the top of the key, dribbling and hand-offs. The Saturday session finished in a scrimmage allowing players to put into practice the plays and drills practised earlier. Throughout the day free throw practice took place with all attempts recorded as part of the performance stats that players are taking part in to improve their own personal game.
On the Saturday evening, the players enjoyed some social time together away from the court for a meal and drinks.
The Sunday session, held back at RAF Cranwell, included a full review of existing offences and plays for new members and a refresher for existing squad members, along with a new offence being shared with the team. Sunday was very much a “back to school” session where the offences and plays were demonstrated on a whiteboard and discussed before walking them through and playing them out on the court. This gave the players the opportunity to give feedback, particularly on the new offence and the potential opportunities it will bring to the game.
The next training session is 9th (2.00 pm – 5.00 pm) and 10th November (10.00 am – 1.00 pm) both at RAF Cranwell. If you are interested in coming along to play for the FIMBA GB +55W team please complete the registration form by clicking here.
