The FIMBA GB +55 Men had their first session back since competing in the ESBA European Masters in Portugal in June.
The session, in Nottingham, served as an introduction of things to come with fitness tests, measurements and the road map of tactics discussed. The returnees welcomed a couple of trialists and the session, albeit tough, was fun and light hearted. New Assistant Coach, Dom Short, was also introduced to the team and he put on a set of skills drills that tested the players and brought back the handles of yesteryear.
The team played in the +50’s at the ESBA European Masters and competed in the early stages but ran out of steam as the games progressed, however this proved that the team has the talent, skill and ability to compete at the highest levels and when playing against their own age group could be a force to be reckoned with.
ESBA showed me that we needed to be more disciplined in our approach to training and tactics. Other countries treated the Championship no differently to the FIMBA World’s or Europeans and that surprised me and a few of the players and so we’ve decided to make changes to reflect the level of professionalism needed to compete
Des Williams – FIMBA GB +55 Men Head Coach
