The first training weekend of the new campaign which took place in Leicester was designed with an emphasis on running through our offensive plays. This session acted as an introduction to our strategies for new players as well as a refresher for our returning players.
Prior to the start of the session our new team captain Ruth Barron was announced, along with vice-captain Michelle Graham and Player/Coach Hazel Shaw. All of whom will make positive contributions to the team’s progress throughout the campaign. We also introduced a new Mentorship scheme, put in place primarily to give new players an established teammate to refer to in a one-to-one relationship. This will hopefully alleviate any concerns or anxieties that any new player could experience and provide a framework to develop each other as the season progresses.
From the start of the session, it was clear that players were fully focused on improving all facets of the game from last year whilst supporting the integration of players new to the W50s setup. The positive energy, unselfish team play and the willingness to take on board the coaching direction, clearly shows that we’re moving in the right direction towards next year’s tournaments.
We look forward enormously to the final training session of 2024 over the weekend of December 14th where I’m sure the results will be as pleasing.
Coach Phil Gander is delighted to announce the FIMBA GB +50 Women training squad for the 2024/25 season.
