+50 Women ready for Switzerland

This past weekend provided the +50 Women with their final training days in Leicester before the squad departs for Switzerland next month, for the 17th FIMBA World Championships.

Saturday’s format was set up as an intense session to sharpen up on decision making under pressure and to work to ensure that high percentage scoring options were sought at every opportunity.

I was extremely pleased with how the players quickly took onboard the philosophy adjustments and put in to practise the learnings, with results clear to see by all during the game situations.

A match against a team made up of players from the Leicester area and several of our training squad was arranged for Sunday morning. This gave the team the opportunity to play a full game against quality opposition comprising a mix of youth and experience. The entertaining match didn’t disappoint and there were lots of great plays, solid defence and highlights on show from both teams. Many thanks to Matt, Tom and Dee for their time officiating the match.

During the weekend, player coach Hazel presented to the team a 6-weeks to Ticino Fitness Challenge for all to participate in in the build up to the World Championships. This plan, to assist the squad achieving the next level of fitness, was well received and we look forward to seeing the results throughout the weeks. Hazel also kindly booked a meal for us at 3 Little Birds Caribbean restaurant in town and if you’re ever looking for a quality meal in a fabulous environment in Leicester, we would all recommend booking a table!

Our final training weekend was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish and has really put us in good stead for the remainder of the campaign and Ticino. With only 6 weeks until we’re there, there’s still a lot of basketball to be played. Some of our squad will be attending the Dublin Masters this coming weekend and on the weekend of June 6th we all look forward to attending the GB Masters in Cardiff.

May I wish all the FIMBA GB teams attending the World Championships the very best of luck and a thoroughly enjoyable tournament.
