The FIMBA GB +35 Women were back at the home court in Leicester last weekend for their first camp including all their National League stars.
The one day session was split between defence and offence with Captain Lisa Greenaway ensuring the FIMBA principles were instilled across all squad members. The defensive part of the day focused on communication and movement to ensure everyone is on the same page and the players all dialed in straight away to support each other.
With the return of many national league players, who have been away winning matches with the respective teams, it was important to reintegrate them quickly on the offensive sets and understand the strengths of their teammates to maximise their effectiveness in matches.
As always, it was an excellent session with a good mix of intensity and fun as the squad starts to build momentum to the World Cup in Croatia where they will be entering two teams again and then the FIMBA European Championships in Pesaro, Italy with one strong team aiming to match or better their medal colour from Malaga in 2022.
This was the first competitive squad training camp and with all but 2 players in attendance it was a camp of hard focus, drilled offensive work, implementing our defensive principles and welcoming our national league ladies back to the fold for camps going forward. There is a lot of hard work to be done, but I think everyone is on the same page mentally and we will continue to work hard in preparation for the fight for medals in 2024.
