Get ready for a ground-breaking moment in the sport — the first-ever Masters Wheelchair Basketball World Cup is coming to the UK in 2026.
FIMBA GB is excited to announce that not only are we the first national programme globally to integrate Masters Wheelchair Basketball, we will also be hosting the first-ever Masters Wheelchair Basketball World Cup at the Sportscotland National Training Centre, Inverclyde in August.
Having benefited from a 14.5million investment and full reopened in 2017, Inverclyde is the first UK residential sports centre of its kind. Designed for inclusivity, this allows everyone including athletes, spectators, and visitors, to be able to train and stay all under one roof. The centre itself has accessible access routes between accomodation, ancillary areas and facilities as well as extra-large lifts to all floors, fully accessible changing spaces, wider corridors and portable hoists. Inverclyde is also uniquely placed to accommodate 120 wheelchair users at one time, with the twin rooms benefiting from extra floor space for two wheelchair users in each room and en-suite wet rooms.
Hosted jointly by British Wheelchair Basketball, FIMBA Great Britain and Mobility in Motion, this pioneering world-first event will bring together Masters players from around the globe for an unforgettable week of competition, community, and celebration of adaptive sport.
We are now inviting expressions of interest from teams and governing bodies outside of the UK by completing the online form, available here.
