The +45s Men’s programme continues to gather momentum, with this newly formed setup generating an exceptionally high level of interest. The response from players has underlined both the depth of experience available and the appetite to be part of something new within FIMBA GB.
With that level of interest, difficult but necessary selection decisions have already been made, and the squad has been trimmed as the programme moves forward. Further refinement may still be required to ensure the group remains focused, balanced, and aligned with the demands of international competition. These decisions reflect the long-term vision for the team rather than a lack of quality, as the commitment shown across the wider group has been outstanding.
The effort and intensity brought by the players so far has been exceptional. Training sessions have been competitive, positive, and driven by a collective willingness to work, learn, and support one another. This attitude is laying strong foundations for a group that can grow together and translate that work into performances on the court.
Offensive concepts have now begun to be introduced, with an emphasis on developing shared understanding and building chemistry through repetition and communication. As players continue to develop alongside one another, the expectation is that cohesion, confidence, and physical sharpness will continue to increase.
The next phase of the programme will focus on competitive exposure, with a planned series of games designed to test progress and accelerate development. Subject to availability and logistics, the ambition is also to organise a pre-tournament tournament to further prepare the group for the challenges ahead. All preparation is firmly geared towards ensuring the team is ready, unified, and confident as we look ahead to boarding the plane to Athens.
“For a brand-new +45s setup, the level of interest and commitment has been outstanding. The effort the players have put in from day one has been first class, and that gives us a really strong base to build from. Selection decisions are never easy, but they’re about shaping a group that can grow together and compete at the highest level. As we continue to put our offenses in and spend more time together on the court, this group will keep getting stronger. Everything we’re doing is about being ready — physically, mentally, and collectively — when it’s time to head to Athens.” Head Coach: AJ
