It was a really good turnout for the FIMBA GB WO55’s training camp at the weekend. All the players came with lots of energy and were fully prepared to work hard. After the usual warm-up the players focussed on a selection of fast break drills. The emphasis was on passing accurately at speed and executing basket completion; initially this was through lay-ups and then pull-up jump shots, rebounding and finishing if required.
Offensive play options were revisited for both current and new players in the squad this was followed by a detailed session of end line and sideline plays.
Saturday ended with a very competitive and high energy scrimmage session.
The session on Sunday focussed on defensive drills, with the emphasis on closing down players, pass denial and help defense. It was an intensive session with the players demonstrating their individual fitness levels. The fitness of the team has been one of the key successes in previous tournaments at home and abroad. This will stand the team in good stead in the forthcoming tournaments this season and European Championships in Athens 2026.
During the course of the weekend each player took 20 free throws, the results of which were recorded with a view to improving consistency. To make the free throws more realistic, they were taken in-between the drills.
Head Coach Stu Coffey thanked all the players for their dedication to the weekend programme, it was an excellent training camp. We go again in Cranwell in November (15th and 16th)
